Dear Angels;

October and November were both busy and exciting. Several groups and individuals held fundraisers for us and we got to bowl, play tennis, watch golf balls fall from the sky, walk, play softball and do any number of fun things to raise money for our women in treatment. In November we assisted an all time high of 114 women. December is up to 113 and it is not over yet.

In October we were also blessed to meet the owners of Ju-Ju-Be International. They showed up at our office and presented us with a check for $10,000. They also put together a video, which they placed on their website
http://ju-ju-be.com/breast-cancer-awareness-month-ju-ju-be/
and we have on our Facebook site, of them presenting the check and me talking about how our funds are used each month. Special thanks to Ju-Ju-Be and the two Kristins for their awesome donation.

In November we purchased a 3 bedroom, 2 bath condominium. In December we moved in a Stage 4 mom and her four young children. It was the first time they have lived together for several months. Her husband deserted her during her treatment and she ended up in a homeless shelter. We stepped in and provided support. Now that she has a place to live she can apply for custody and have some quality time with her children.

December as usual was a very busy month. In addition to the Condo and the Christmas Luncheon, which was wonderful, we also had our Client Christmas Party at Boomer’s in Fountain Valley. Thirty moms and their families attended. We also delivered gifts and food to twelve more families. Boomer’s was beautifully decorated by Betty Garcia and her crew. Denise Arciero bought Gingerbread Houses for all the moms to decorate with their children and our Fallbrook High volunteers helped the kids put together 3D Christmas trees and decorate small wreaths. All the kids and adults got wristbands and tokens so they could enjoy the park and of course Santa & Mrs. Claus came and passed out gifts. We shopped for 87 children and did gift bags for 36 moms. We also made up special gift bags for all of the single women we support at Grandma’s House of Hope. Ju-Ju-Be donated several boxes of special gifts for the moms and teenage girls and Oakley donated 10 pairs of sunglasses for the teen boys. Special thanks to everyone who volunteered and to Santa & Mrs. Claus for the joy they brought to the children.

May happiness and good health be yours in the coming New Year,

Faye

BREAST CANCER ANGELS CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON; Wow, what a great day! We had beautiful weather, great food, great vendors, awesome entertainment and an inspiring speaker, one of our current clients; Antoinette Montreal. Over $48,000 was raised for our women in treatment. Special Thanks to Trend Offset Printing for sponsoring this luncheon, Lori Franklin and Diane Shrake for the beautiful raffle prizes, Holli Lienau for making all the arrangements, and special thanks to all who attended.

ANDI BOWMAN’S HOLIDAY LUNCHEON. This fun event is held at the Torrance Marriott each year in November as a fundraiser. We got to shop, eat, listen to a great comedian and just have fun. Over $8,500 was raised for our women in treatment. Special thanks to Andrea Bowman for choosing us as their charity for the third year.

CLAUS FOR A CAUSE. This year that Mr. & Mrs. Claus (Jim and Ann Steinmetz) celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by raising over $26,000 for Breast Cancer Angels. We honor their dedication and commitment to each other and to our women in treatment. Enjoy your vacation, you deserve it!

FALLBROOK BREAST CANCER ANGEL CLUB. This club was started in 2011 by my niece Mc Kenna Diverde and her friends at Fallbrook High School. They had a wonderful night of poetry reading and then sold mistletoe at our Christmas luncheon to bring in a total of $1,300. I love it when our young people understand what a blessing it is to give to others less fortunate. Special thanks to; McKenna, Kiley, Savannah, Aaron and all the wonderful young people who participated in the poetry reading.

BOWLING PARTY. Special Thanks to Teresa Christopher who founded TC’s Warriors. We had a great time bowling and eating Pizza at Tustin Lanes. Over $1,300 was raised for our women in treatment.

GAIL MORENO MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT. A fun event to honor the memory and spirit of Gail Moreno, a friend who lived and worked and traveled for years without letting her breast cancer define her or slow her down. Over $8,000 was raised at this event. Special thanks to Sandra Field of Asset Planning and Lynda DeWitt for a great “Celebration of Life”.

AFTER TURKEY TENNIS TOURNAMENT, A wonderful time was had by all who attended. It was an incredibly beautiful day to play tennis and raise money while doing it. Special Thanks to Eddie and Lee Jorge for raising over $2,400.00.

CITY OF CYPRESS, SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT. I would love to be able to attend and throw out the first ball; unfortunately this event is held on the same date as our Christmas Luncheon each year. I heard it was a great event and they are sending us some pictures so I will post them to our Facebook site soon. Over $2,700 was raised again this year. Special thanks to Kristina Freeman and the City of Cypress Parks and Recreation Dept. for all their hard work.

ENCHANTED STAR QUILT. The beautiful quilt which was hand pieced by the UCI Stars and donated to Breast Cancer Angels, was raffled off at our Christmas Luncheon. The winner was Cindy Berman, one of our most valued volunteers. We sold quilt tickets at various events and the total amount raised was $680.00. Special thanks to all the wonderful quilters who worked on this project.

CARS FOR A CAUSE, Their employees all participated and walked on their breaks and lunch hours to earn a total of $1,400.00 for our women in treatment. Special thanks to Robin Britt for organizing the event and to all the employees for supporting us.

GARDEN GROVE ELKS WALK. This event was great fun. Some of our clients even attended and walked with their families. The money raised at this event was split between our organization and the Cordelia Knott Foundation at St. Joseph. The money donated to us was $5,700. Special thanks to everyone who came out and had fun with us.

ARCHIPELAGO BOTANICALS, This fundraiser by Archipelago Botanicals had lots of different ways to help raise money. Several Angels clicked on the “like” button on their Facebook, for $1 a click. Other Angels ordered products from their website. Archipelago also donated three large gift baskets to use as silent auction prizes. Total donated to us off the promotions was over $2,000. Special thanks to everyone involved at Archipelago for choosing us as their charity.

Hi Everyone,

I hope this finds you all doing well and enjoying what is left of the summer.

We had a great time at the Summer Wine Tasting Party at Sundried Tomato Café in San Juan Capistrano. We had great food, wine, entertainment and over 100 people who came out to help us raise money for women in treatment. Special Thanks to Anthony & Holli Lienau, for sponsoring this event and to the staff at Sundried Tomato and our volunteers for helping to keep everything running smoothly.

We want to thank Kevin Lee, Mustache May for Mammaries ($2,016), Cypress Soroptimists ($1,500), El Dorado Women’s Club ($500), Virginia Master’s and the Lakewood Women’s Golf Club ($3,145) Vickie Vela Cambruzzi ($300) John Aguilera, Corona Del Mar Dental Group ($1,200) the Downey Short Foundation ($20,000) Lynda DeWitt for Taste @the Point ($10,000) Buena Park Emblem Club ($1,000), Garden Grove Emblem Club ($1,000)and so many more individuals and groups who had fundraising events for us in 2011.

Trend Offset Printing continues to pay our overhead so that 100% of your donation dollars go directly to financial assistance for women in treatment for breast cancer. We are so blessed; this has been an amazing gift for the last 10 years.

We continue to assist over 85 women each month. We are desperately trying to raise enough money to keep our families sheltered and fed. We are also receiving more calls from our families for help with utilities and gas cards. At this time of the year we are one of the few charities that still have funding. This is why all of the above fundraisers are so important. Please try to support one or more of them as your budget allows.

Don’t forget that as December gets closer so does our Client Christmas Party. We have already been blessed by Laurey Venn, Cindy Berman and the First Christian Church Lamplighters with the material and loving hands to make 48 fleece blankets for the children under 12 that will be attending. We will be needing gifts for our moms; something fun or pretty for their gift bags, and gifts and gift cards for the kids. If you can help, let me know.

Thank you for your support, you make my world brighter,

Faye Dietiker, Director

Dear Earthly Angels;

Last month I told you about how many women we assisted in 2010 and where your money went. This month I thought I would share a few of their stories.

We began assisting Sandra in 2009. She was originally diagnosed in 2006 when she was 32 and her daughters were 2 and 9. Her husband had to take family leave from his job when her cancer worsened. We assisted with food, gas and Wal-Mart cards. Sandra passed away this month and we helped pay for final expenses. Please pray for comfort for this family.

We have been assisting Melissa since 2003. She was diagnosed when she was 29 and her daughter was 6 months old and her son was 9. Her husband left while she was in treatment. We assist with $500 a month toward housing and $250.00 a month towards food. Melissa’s platelets have stopped producing and Melissa is now getting blood every week. She is very sick and needs your prayers.

We began assisting Johanna in 2009. She was originally diagnosed in 2007 just before her baby was born and her older daughter was 10. Her husband has been by her side through everything. He has missed a lot of work to take care of Johanna and the baby. Johanna has now moved onto hospice. Please keep this family in your prayers.

We are currently assisting 5 women who are living at Grandma’s House of Hope. These women were either homeless or 1 small step away when they were diagnosed. We pay their $500 program fee or help with other needs. All of these women worked and lost their jobs shortly before or after they were diagnosed.

Every year at least 10 of the women we are assisting die from their breast cancer. In December of 2010, Danere, age 28, passed away. She was a fine young woman with her whole life ahead of her. Her family is devastated.

These are just a few of the 400 plus women we assist each year. What we do makes a huge difference in their lives,

Thank You,
Faye

We sent out hundreds of letters during the year and another 767 letters over the past weekend. Please call me (714-898-8900) if you feel your letter was incorrect or you did not receive one. We are holding 15 for lack of a current address.

2010 was another truly amazing year; we assisted over 450 women, one man and one family with a 10 year old daughter fighting breast cancer. We spent close to $300,000 on patient needs. Food was over $165,000. Housing was over $64,000, Medical Expense was over $8,500, Final Expense was over $2,500, Transportation (gas cards, etc.) was over $15,000, Social worker was over $9,000, scholarships were over $3,000, utilities for clients were over $4,000 and clothes, school supplies, etc were over $9,000.

We still assist primarily in Orange County and the Long Beach area, which extends from Whittier to San Pedro. We also do one- time emergency assistance in the Inland Empire and San Diego County.

We are truly grateful to everyone who supported our families.

Love, Faye

Jim has been our Santa since Christmas of 1999 when we made our first deliveries to four families where the moms were in the final stages of their breast cancer battles.

Jim and Ann graduated Santa School 6 years ago and have dedicated all of their holiday seasons since then to raising money for Breast Cancer Angels. In 2010 they raised over $28,000, an all time high! Their total to date is over $100,000!

We see them in action every year at our Client Christmas Party at Boomer’s and they are truly a magical couple, perfect for Santa & Mrs. Claus.

We thank them for their loving support and congratulate them on celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary
